What Is Self Adhesive Vinyl?

Self-adhesive vinyl is a thin, flexible material that is often used to create colorful, eye-catching signs and graphics. Self-adhesive vinyl is waterproof and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, and can also withstand temperatures up to 75°C.

Self-adhesive vinyl is a versatile material that can be cut into a variety of different shapes and sizes. You can apply the vinyl to most flat and curved surfaces, such as plastic, metal, or aluminum. Self-adhesive vinyl can be used in digital printing machines and can also be used on floor tiles. You can use self-adhesive to create stunning advertisements for your business or unique and colorful stickers and decals for your home. Versatile vinyl is available in a variety of different colors and finishes, such as matte and gloss.

How to Use Self-Adhesive Vinyl?
Using self-adhesive vinyl can be a quick and easy process, but it can also go wrong quickly. It can be very frustrating and discouraging when you end up finding bubbles and wrinkles on your vinyl. Here are some simple and practical tips to follow when using self-adhesive vinyl.

Storing Vinyl Properly
In order for your vinyl to perform at its best, you need to make sure you store it properly. Most types of vinyl should be stored in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight. We recommend storing the vinyl in a safe place, such as a garage or attic. Vinyl rolls should be hung or standing upright on the roll block provided. Vinyl should not be stored for more than two years and also make sure the substrate is clean. Dust on the substrate can cause bubbles to form on the vinyl.

Application Tips

Apply the squeegee at a 45-degree angle and overlap and apply force. Make sure the squeegee glides smoothly over the vinyl and maintains consistent pressure.

When using pre-markers, make sure to wait a short time before pulling it off. If you pull the substrate off too quickly, you may also pull the graphic back.

If you are using a wet application, remember to remove all liquid from the substrate. Liquid left under the vinyl can cause bubbles. Use a squeegee to squeeze the liquid out from under the vinyl to remove all liquid.

Invest in a Quality Product
The best way to avoid bubbles and wrinkles is to purchase vinyl with Air Venting Technology. Air Venting Technology uses a micro-relief texture to create an even surface. This texture in the adhesive creates a grid and allows any trapped air to escape when the vinyl is applied.

How to Fight Bubbles and Wrinkles
The best way to remove bubbles and wrinkles is to use an air venting tool to pop out the air pockets. An air venting tool is much better than using a knife, which can damage the vinyl.

Now that you know the dos and don'ts, here are some easy to follow self-adhesive vinyl application instructions.

Tools Needed to Apply Self-Adhesive Vinyl:

Cloth.
Denatured Alcohol (for glass surfaces)
Spray bottle with a small amount of washing up liquid and warm water.
Squeegee
Safety Knife

Instructions:
Step 1: Use a damp cloth to clean the surface you want to apply the self-adhesive vinyl to. If you are applying the self-adhesive vinyl to a classroom, use denatured alcohol to clean the surface.

Step 2: Pick up the self-adhesive vinyl, peel off a small piece of the backing paper and fold it back into place.

Step 3: Apply the area not covered with adhesive to the surface and rub it slowly and gently with the scraper.

Step 4: Pull the backing paper down from the back while rubbing the vinyl with the scraper.

Step 5: Once you are satisfied with the placement of the vinyl, use a rubber scraper to rub the vinyl vigorously and remove any water that is between the self-adhesive vinyl and the surface.

Is self-adhesive vinyl permanent?
Self-adhesive vinyl designed for outdoor applications is permanent, while self-adhesive vinyl designed for indoor use is removable. Permanent self-adhesive vinyl usually has a glossy finish, while removable vinyl usually has a matte finish.

Removable indoor self-adhesive vinyl is ideal for creating eye-catching and colorful wall stickers or indoor signs. One popular removable self-adhesive vinyl is Oracal 631. Oracal 631 has a polyacrylate removable adhesive that lasts up to five years.

Permanent outdoor self-adhesive vinyl is often used to create outdoor signs and vehicle decals. Permanent self-adhesive vinyl can be removed using a strong adhesive remover. However, permanent self-adhesive materials can damage paint and walls. One popular permanent outdoor self-adhesive vinyl material is Oracal 651. Oracal 651 has a solvent-based polyacrylate adhesive that lasts at least five years.
