What is self-adhesive?

What is self-adhesive?

What is self-adhesive? Backcoating is a protective coating applied to the back of the backing paper to prevent waste discharge. The adhesive around the rewind label adheres to the paper. Another feature is to make multi-layer labels. The back printing function is to print the manufacturer's registered trademark or pattern on the back of the backing paper, which plays the role of publicity and anti-counterfeiting.

Self-adhesive materials are divided into five categories

1. According to the adhesive properties, it can be divided into permanent adhesive materials and removable adhesive materials;

2. According to the classification of adhesive coating technology, it can be divided into hot melt adhesive, solvent adhesive and emulsion adhesive;

3. According to the classification and chemical properties of the adhesive, it can be divided into two kinds of self-adhesive materials: glue base and acrylic acid;

4. According to the characteristics of the backing paper, it is divided into three types of self-adhesive materials: opaque backing paper, translucent backing paper and transparent backing paper;

5. According to the characteristics of the surface material, it is divided into paper adhesives, film adhesives and special adhesives.

What are the basic structures and functions of self-adhesive materials?

The self-adhesive is mainly composed of: surface coating, surface material, coating, adhesive, release coating, base paper and back coating or back printing. The composition of the self-adhesive material is explained as follows:

(1). surface coating

Used to change the surface properties of surface materials. Such as increasing the surface tension, changing the color, increasing the protective layer to make it better accept the ink, easy to print, prevent dirt, increase the adhesion of the ink, and prevent the printed text from falling off. Surface coatings are mainly used for non-absorbent materials such as aluminum foil, aluminized paper and various film materials.

(2). adhesive

The adhesive is the medium between the label material and the adhesive substrate. According to its characteristics, it can be divided into two types: permanent type and movable type. It comes in a variety of recipes for different toppings and different occasions. Adhesives are the most important component of self-adhesive material technology and the key to label application technology.

(3). Release coating (silicon coating)

That is, apply a silicone oil layer on the surface of the base paper. Applying silicone oil can make the base paper into a very low surface tension and a very smooth surface, which is to prevent the glue from sticking to the base paper.

(4). The end of paper

The role of the base paper is to receive the release agent coating, protect the adhesive on the back of the facestock, and support the facestock so that it can be die-cut, discarded and labelled on the labelling machine.

(5). surface material

That is, the face material, which is the paste that is printed on the front, glued on the back, and finally applied to the material. In general, all flexible deformable materials can be used as fabrics of self-adhesive materials, such as plain paper, films, composite foils, various textiles, thin metal sheets, and rubber. The type of finish depends on the end application and printing process. The facestock should be suitable for printing and printing, have good ink adhesion, and be strong enough to accept various processes such as die cutting, waste discharge, slitting, drilling and labeling.

(6). Back coating or back printing

(7), primer

The same as the topcoat, but it is applied on the back of the surface material. The main purposes of the primer are:

A> Protect surface material from adhesive penetration.

B> Increase the lightness of the fabric;

C>Increase the bonding force between the adhesive and the surface material;

D> Prevent the plasticizer in the plastic surface material from penetrating into the glue, affecting the performance of the glue, resulting in a decrease in the adhesion of the label and the label falling off.

The main use of self-adhesive

1. Paper self-adhesive labels are mainly used for liquid washing products and popular personal care products; film materials are mainly used for high-end daily chemical products. Previously, popular personal care products and household lotion products accounted for a large proportion of the market, so the corresponding paper materials were used more.

2. Film self-adhesive labels are commonly made of synthetic materials such as PE, PP, and PVC. The film materials are mainly white, matt and transparent. Since the printability of the film material is not very good, corona treatment or adding a coating on its surface is generally used to enhance its printability. In order to avoid deformation or tearing of some film materials during printing and labeling, some materials are also subjected to directional, uniaxial or biaxial stretching, such as biaxially oriented BOPP materials.

Self-adhesive labels are widely used in many fields. Barcode labels generally include drug labels, food labels, alcohol labels, battery labels, outer container labels, shampoo labels, bar code labels, temporary labels for semi-finished products, etc. Mainly with film, it is mainly used for decorative decals of automobiles and motorcycles, logo characters of trademark windows, reflective films of highways, container markings, etc.
